The Black Phoebe is a black-and-white passerine bird (Family: Tyrannidae, Order: Passeriformes) with a long black tail feathers. The back of the phoebe is shiny black and its belly is white. The eyes, legs and feet of the phoebe are black.
At times, the phoebe buffs its crest and the triangular shape of the phoebe's head is a good guide in identifying the species. Many of the Tyrannidae species have erectile crests.
